Description

Earn a certificate in Natural Beekeeping from Girl Next Door Honey! Our certificate program is designed to prepare you to be the best beekeeper that you can be. Get a comprehensive education on the subject through a combination of lecture based classes, hands-on workshops, one-on-one lessons, and independent study assignments.

How does it work?

Students interested in earning their certificate will have two years to complete the coursework, which consists of 7 classes, 4 independent study assignments and two one-on-one lessons. You may decide to begin the certificate program at any point, even if you have already taken several classes individually. Those classes will still count towards the certificate, but there may be some retroactive independent study assignments related to those classes that you will have to make up. To sign up for our certificate program, please fill out the form below.

What is the time line?

Some classes are not offered as regularly as others. Students enrolled in the certificate program are encouraged to take their time completing the classes. It is not a race and the classes have more of an impact when they are taken spaced out throughout your first three years of beekeeping. After taking the Intro to Beekeeping class, the other classes can be completed in any order, but recommendations can be found below. The 201 Hive Inspection class should be taken three separate times. It is the same class each time, but because conditions in the hives change, there are always new things to learn. You may utilize the two one-on-one lessons as you see fit. The intention with the one-on-one lessons is to focus on topics either not covered in the classes or anything specific to your individual needs as a beekeeper.

Suggested class order:

1. Intro to Beekeeping
2. *Hive Assembly
3. 201 Hive Inspection (first year X2, second year X1)
4. Bee Rescue / Relocation (first or second year)
5. Honey Harvest (second year)
6. Advanced Beekeeping Lecture (second year)
7. One-on-one lessons (X2 as needed)

*optional class

Total Cost:

1. Intro to Beekeeping $40
2. *Hive Assembly $15
3. Three 201 Hive Inspection Classes $195
4. Bee Rescue / Relocation $85
5. Honey Harvest $65
6. Advanced Beekeeping Lecture $65
7. Two One-on-one lessons $80 (private lessons are $40 an hour. Most lessons take an hour or less. Depending on your location, there may be an additional travel charge.)

Typical Total Cost: $530

The certificate is designed so that you can pay as you go. You can sign up for classes online as they become available and you will pay only for that class to reserve your spot.
